More Chris Brown community service news. Chris Brown is usually in the news for throwing temper tantrums on Twitter, his rocky on and off romance with Rihanna, and his slew of legal troubles. But despite having a public perceived bad boy image, the singer also does quite a bit of community service. In fact, the other day the “Fine China” crooner decided to hand out free shoes to needy kids in Los Angeles the other day. The community service event is another part of his Unity Campaign. PEOPLE reports:

When Chris Brown was growing up in Tappahannock, Va., he had one pair of sneakers that he could wear to school, and that was it until the next year.

Now, the singer, 24, is helping put shoes on the feet of the kids who need it most.

“I used to have to borrow my cousin’s clothes,” he told PEOPLE on Saturday at a Los Angeles event for his Unity Campaign, sponsored by Reebok.

“So being able to come from that poverty-stricken environment and then being able to get out of it is what I tried to [do]. … I just want to show the kids and have them have a better light of opportunities for them to do what they need to do.”

On the singer’s website, the Chris Brown Channel, the singer’s camp released the following statement regarding the event:

As part of his Unity Campaign, Chris Brown is working in cooperation with the LA City mayor’s office and local gang reduction organizations to continue inspiring change in South Central LA. His “WE US: Walk Everywhere in Unity’s Shoes” project is providing Reeboks to 1,000 youths at three sites in Compton and The Jungles in an effort to remind young people that whenever and wherever they walk, we are a united community. Thank you to all those who helped make today a great success in South Central Los Angeles!

  1. *rolls eyes* So clearly he’s getting desperate to clean up his image because Rihanna dumped his a-s and he can’t rely on her “forgiveness” anymore to look good.

      1. Don’t give these stans any attention all they trying to do is find a way to bring up Rihanna even if it makes no sense. They are a delusional bunch.

  2. Why pass out shoes that the kids won’t wear? You know those kids want to wear the shoes you like to wear Chris.

  3. Nice of Chris this is why I love UB y’all report unbiased news about celebrities. The only time Chris makes the news or other blogs is in a negative way. I guarantee this positive news regarding Chris won’t be made known.

  4. I feel bad for Chris, he can’t even perform community service without being judged. We are not our past and he’s not going to grow as a person overnight. Besides, how do people know this isn’t something he’s truly passionate about?

  5. I respect that. He is still a good person at heart. Who dont have downfalls and troubles? We all do. It all depends on what you learned from the situation. Much Luv for Chris.

  6. Regardless of his past actions this dude has apologized many times over and he’s doing more than most of you who are speaking down on him. Not one of us should hold a stone in our hands for we have all sinned and will continue to sin. Real Regonzie Real
