Chris Brown’s career hasn’t been the same since the infamous incident with Rihanna in 2009 in which he assaulted his then girlfriend on the night of the Grammys. Since the incident, Chris’ image has taken a massive hit and in the media, he’s pretty much known as a bad boy. Of course Chris’ later legal troubles also didn’t help his image any, but he stated in his recent interview with JET Magazine that he feels some people get a pass for their troubled pasts, such as rapper Jay Z. Chris is opening up more about his feelings about the media and bias, and also explains how he feels now about the incident with Rihanna that changed both of their lives forever. He recently gave an interview to The Guardian, and here are the highlights of the interview.
On his incident with Rihanna:
“That was probably, like, one of the most troubling times in my life, because I was 18 or 19, so being able to feel the hatred from more adult people, you don’t understand it at the time, because you made a mistake.
“I’m going to come back, I know the music that I’m doing, how hard I work, is not just for nothing.”
Chris also says that the incident with Rihanna was the only time he’s ever been violent to a woman:
“No, not at all. Cause you can talk with all my girls that I did mess with before, and it’s never been a violent history.”
When talking about the prosecutors that have forced him to redo 1000 community service hours for his probation, Chris then says it’s unfair to him how white celebrities are forgiven for their troubled pasts and black celebrities are not. He also points out that Charlie Sheen (who has also assaulted a woman) gets a pass for the same crime he’s been slammed for:
“Oh, absolutely. They want me to be the example. Young black kids don’t have the fairer chances. You can see Lindsay Lohan in and out of court every day, you see Charlie Sheen, whoever else, do what they want to do. There hasn’t been any incident that I started since I got on probation, even with the Frank Ocean fight, the Drake situation, all those were defence modes. People think I just walk around as the aggressor, this mad black guy, this angry, young, troubled kid, but I’m not. I’m more and more laid-back. It’s just that people know if they push a button, it’ll make more news than their music. Attaching themselves to me, good or bad, will benefit them.”
Chris needs to grow up and take responsibility for his own actions for once!!!
The same thing goes for Rihanna.
It’s sad he still has to talk about this in 2013. What a hypocritical world we live in. Smh.
Agreed.
Not a fan but he has a point. They don’t treat Charlie Sheen nearly as badly as the do him in the media and he continues to get In trouble too.
Another day, another Chris Brown sympathy ploy. Boy bye.
You know he has a point though…
I’m sorry I still think Chris should be able to move on. What he did wasn’t ok but I means seriously, they don’t do this to white celebs. It’s unfair and really it’s time for everyone to move on.
Again, Rihanna is not a victim. He kind of hints at that in the interview too. They got in a fight and that’s the truth. It was 5 years ago! Time to let it go and let him live.
He’s right. Charlie Sheen does get a pass. They love him too.
Chris just needs to stop talking about this. There’s nothing he can say to change the minds of the people who hate him. Just chill out and get back to the music.
He has a point but when he came out he was the cute baby face dancer that America loved. Then the incident happened no one expected that from him, then everything changed twitter rants, chairs been throw out windows and everything else thats negative. If he wants people to talking about he needs to change his self and stop worrying about other people and there circumstances.
team breezy!!!!
I agree. This is the same thing most of us have been saying all along. Charlie Sheen never really got punished. Hasn’t he done it more than once? I’ll never condone domestic violence, but Rihanna is no one’s victim and deserves no sympathy for this. Period.
I’m definitely riding with Chris on this one. Charlie Sheen hasn’t changed either and continues to spiral out of control but white folks love him anyway. It’s not really fair. It should just be about Chris’ music anyway.
He told no lies….
Oh please. If that’s the case then President Obama should be saying the same thing regarding this ridiculous gov’t shutdown. Whites not having to pay for their wrongs to the same degree that blacks have to is no new thing in this world so please with that mess. Chris needs to stop making excuses and blaming other people for the stuff he did and move the hell on. This incident happened in 2009, wwhy keep dwelling on it?!
He needs to stop talking about this sh-t.
He can’t expect people to feel sorry for him when he’s still doing dumb things.
